2013 Region #4 Walking Amatuer Championship Winner
This past weekend, at the Highland Trial Grounds in South East Michigan, the Grand Valley Bird Dog Club held the region#4 Amateur Championship. The weather was cooler, but the grounds were challenging as ever with the lush growth keeping everybody at bay. The 1 hour coarse was selected by Jimmy Cipp, additional cutting was invested in by the Grand Valley and Highland field trial clubs. The Judges Larry (da Judge) Sutter and David Havlin stood sound in the saddle as both handler and dog cut their way through the fauna of the Highland grounds, water tubs were put out on the grounds.
In the end a Champion was named "One Shot Remington" handled and owned by Greg Hilla, who was gracious and reserved! also no RU Champion named.
Dinner was provided by Ron Chef Sposita, his offering was kindly sponsored by Brian Wood who's dog was named Champion in 2011, the last time the Championship was held at Highland Field Trial Grounds-

2013 Fall Highland USCSDA Results
Listed below are the results for the 2013 Fall Highland trial. This trial was run under a changing weather pattern, which started in the upper 30's with frost in the low area of the grounds to the high 60's in the early and late afternoon.
Because of the summer rains this year, the grounds are very lush, or in field trial terms THICK as a BRICK! Highland in the fall is always a challenge for the trial dogs, the grasses are 4' and greater in height which retains the heat along with no water on the grounds. Earlier in the week both the Highland club and the Grand Valley club donated funds to get Bill Darr to brush-hog as much as he could, this is always a battle with the DNR who want and view the grounds as an arboretum rather then a field trial ground! "Come on get it together!"
This year our club drew no puppy or derby dogs, but the Shooting dog classes showed up. Our judges for this year was Dave Havlin and Larry Coleman, judges are from the horseback Brittany world and were received well, again thank you gentleman! The luncheon for the Highland Trial was cooked and prepared by both Mr. Sposita and Ron Sposita, homemade pasta with sides of meatballs and sausage with a side of salad was provided by the club.
